Ministry of Education’s Attendance Transformation
Supporting the rollout of a national attendance system by enabling a smooth and reliable data transition.
Overview
We recently had the opportunity to support part of the Ministry of Education’s new attendance system rollout, a nationwide initiative aimed at improving how student attendance is tracked and understood across New Zealand.
While this was a large-scale effort involving multiple moving parts, we supported the data migration that enabled the system’s implementation.
It’s exciting to see work like this contributing to something with real impact.
Our Involvement
Our role focused on supporting the transition of data into the new system.
This included:
- Migrating attendance data into the new platform
- Ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout the process
- Supporting a smooth transition with minimal disruption
- Applying validation and testing to help maintain data quality
This type of work often happens behind the scenes, but it plays an important role in making sure systems are set up to function as intended.
The Bigger Picture
The rollout of the updated attendance system forms part of a broader effort to improve school attendance outcomes across the country.
Early reporting has already shown improvements in attendance in some areas following the changes.
Why This Matters
Projects like this are a reminder that even when something appears straightforward on the surface, there is often a lot happening behind the scenes to make it work.
Being part of initiatives that improve visibility and decision-making, especially at the national level, and contribute to stronger education outcomes, is something we’re proud of. We’re looking forward to seeing how this continues to evolve and the impact it has over time.
